Social networking platforms.- The P ew Research Center in the United States has published a study showing than half of the adult population in the United States uses social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook.

The increase is impressive considering that six years ago another poll was conducted by the same research institute and then, only 5% of American adults affirmed to use social networking sites regularly.

The study has also revealed that online networking sites do not understand of social classes with users coming from every sector of the society and having different levels of qualification.
The main users are young women between the ages of 18-29 while Twitter is mainly used by Afro-Americans while the white population prefers Facebook.

Internet is more commonly used for searches and sending and checking e-mails on a daily basis. However, one out five Americans considers the social networking sites a time-consuming activity.
